Market Participant Update, June 2026
In June 2026, the Austrian rail market saw several changes among rail carriers.
CityRail, a Czech freight transport company specializing in timber transport, signed an infrastructure usage agreement (INV) with ÖBB Infrastructure effective June 1.
At the same time, Helrom, a German rail operator active in container logistics, is withdrawing from the market. After filing for bankruptcy for the first time in 2025, the operator filed for bankruptcy again at the end of May.
As a result of these developments, ÖBB-Infrastruktur AG revoked the company’s infrastructure use permit (INV) in early June.
The Swiss freight transport company LLOB, on the other hand, announced an expansion. The company specializes in cross-border connections between Austria, Switzerland, Germany, France, and Italy and plans to handle freight traffic via the Brenner corridor.
